Continuity of Judgment

Organizations are acquiring systems capable of acting across functions, interpreting incomplete information, and initiating work that once required human instruction. Yet the authority to direct, constrain, and account for those actions remains embedded in institutions designed for software that waited to be told what to do.

This creates a widening gap between operating capacity and institutional authority. The organization can technically act in ways it has not yet decided it should act, through systems whose decisions do not fit cleanly within existing roles, controls, or lines of accountability.

This is not primarily an AI adoption problem. It is an institutional design problem. The consequential question is no longer whether an organization can deploy artificial intelligence, but whether it can redesign authority, responsibility, and judgment quickly enough to govern what that intelligence makes possible.
